Amsonia, commonly known as ‘bluestar’, is a hardy perennial from the Apocynaceae family, appreciated for its star-shaped blue flowers and fine-textured foliage that turns golden in fall. It thrives in full sun to partial shade, in well-drained soil and moderate fertility, showing excellent cold tolerance and long-term garden reliability. Establishes well from propagation with reliable sticking and steady rooting in well-drained media. Prefers moderate moisture and balanced feeding to support strong foliage and natural clumping growth. PGR use is generally unnecessary, as its habit remains controlled while producing abundant star-shaped blooms.
