Your Osteospermum Early-Spring Production Roadmap
Plan your 12 cm (5″) Osteospermum crop to be retail-ready by Week 13-14
Osteospermum series: ordering and propagation (W40-W52)
| 1W40-W47 | Ordering | Place your order in advance, because this ensures cutting availability. |
| 2W48-W50 | Plan & Stick | First, stick cuttings and spray adjuvant after sticking. Also, IBA or K-IBA treatment may accelerate rooting. Maintain a propagation temperature of 70-72°F (21-22°C) and begin feeding at 50 ppm N. Then, on the day of sticking, apply a fungicide and daminozide at 2,500 ppm. In addition, night-interruption or extended-day lighting during propagation can promote earlier flowering. |
| 3W50-W52 | Rooting | Then, begin cooling to 65-68°F / 18-20°C and increase feed to 100-150 ppm N. Maintain pH 5.8-6.2 and EC around 0.9-1.0. |
Osteospermum series: liner and transplant (W52-W3)
| 4W52-W2 | Build the Liner | Meanwhile, maintain 65-68°F / 18-20°C, feed 100-150 ppm N, and build EC toward 1.0-1.2. Also, apply Daminozide as needed to control stretch. |
| 5W1-W3 | Transplant | After approximately 5 weeks of propagation, transplant into the final 12 cm (5″) pot. Also, maintain pH 5.8-6.2, EC 1.0-1.2, and apply fungicide after transplant. However, pinching is generally not recommended when plants are compact; if needed under warm conditions, pinch at transplant above 5-7 pairs of leaves. |
Osteospermum series: finishing and shipping (W9-W13)
| 6W9-W11 | Finishing | Meanwhile, grow at 65-68°F / 18-20°C and feed 100-150 ppm N. Also, no additional lighting is required. Then, maintain consistent soil moisture, allowing the soil to dry slightly between irrigations, and keep foliage dry entering the night. Then, use Daminozide as needed; Paclobutrazol drench 1-2 ppm can be applied when plants reach about 85% of desired size. |
| 7W11-W12 | Final Quality | Finish cool for the best plant quality. Then, check crop uniformity, flower development and finished size. Also, maintain dry foliage and avoid excessive moisture before shipping. |
| 8W12-W13 | Ship & Retail | Then, ship market-ready Osteospermum to retail with vibrant flower coverage and strong shelf appeal, ready to bring early-season color to consumers. |
