Ageratum houstianum
Ageratum houstonianum, commonly known as ‘flossflower’, is a member of the Asteraceae family and is valued for its soft, fuzzy flower clusters in shades of blue, purple, pink, and white. This long-blooming annual thrives in full sun to partial shade, well-drained soil, and moderate fertility. Its compact growth and continuous flowering make it perfect for edging, bedding, and mixed containers, adding a soft texture and steady color throughout the season.
For successful Ageratum propagation, stick cuttings promptly and remove from mist to reduce Botrytis risk. Maintain 70°–72°F (21°–22°C) for the first two weeks, then cool to 65°–68°F (18°–20°C). Keep pH at 5.8–6.2, EC at 0.8–1.2, and feed 50 ppm N early, increasing to 100–125 ppm N. Apply broad-spectrum fungicide at sticking and week 2, and use Daminozide at 1,500 ppm if needed for growth control.
